A WORD FROM PASTOR COPELAND

Welcome to Central!

It is always a joy for us to meet new people and have visitors in our services.  We strive to be an encouragement and blessing to all.

Central Baptist Church was started in the heart of Amarillo in 1931.  We are a Jude 22 church that truly desires to make a difference in the lives of people! We strive to help folks have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Central is a missions-hearted church that desires to impact Amarillo, our surrounding area, and the world with the Gospel.

If you are looking for a church home that will love you and teach to you the Word of God, please come visit us.  We would love to minister to you, your family, and answer any questions you might have.

If there is anything that our staff or I could help you with, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

May God Richly Bless You,
Pastor Allen Copeland

STARTING POINT

While we’d love to have you visit our church, the most important thing is that your sins have been forgiven and that Heaven is your home!

Most people in today’s world claim to be Christians and on their way to heaven, but the way they live their lives presents a vastly different reality.

The important thing is not what one has been taught, but rather what the Bible clearly teaches.  One day we’ll all appear before God, where we’ll be judged according to his Word. (Hebrews 9:27)

We can’t only tell you what you want to hear, we must tell you the truth as it is given in the Bible.  We don’t share this message to offend, but we’re genuinely concerned for those that we encounter each day.

Many of us pretended to be Christian for many years, even though we realized our lives demonstrated something vastly different.  We wanted to tell ourselves that everything was OK.  Many of us attended church for many years and some were even baptized but deep down – we knew something wasn’t right.  We could not deny the reality of our actions.

We found that obedience to God’s Word demonstrated if someone has truly repented of their sins and placed their faith in Jesus.  So, we ask you to examine yourself.  Is your life an example of a genuine follower of Jesus Christ who shed His blood for you?

WHAT TO EXPECT

YOUR FIRST VISIT

Visiting any church for the very first time can be a tough experience.  Well, we want to put you at ease.  On your visit, you can expect it to feel like church.  You won’t mistake it for a rock concert, a theatre, a Broadway musical, a positive-thinking seminar, or a political rally.  It feels different from anything else throughout the week – it feels like church.

Your visit to Central will be refreshing, friendly, and enjoyable for your whole family.  We want you to experience inspiring music, helpful teaching and preaching, friendly people, and a place where you feel welcome and “at home”!

Below find a few answers to your questions and what you might expect on your first visit.

WHAT ARE YOUR SERVICE LIKE?

PREACHING

At Central, we still believe in preaching God’s Word.  It will be direct and unapologetic, but it is truth.  Our goal is not to make you laugh or make you cry or even to help you feel good.  Our goal is to help you change by understanding how God’s truth affects your daily life.  We have found that when people do right, feeling good is automatic and longer-lasting.

MUSIC

We believe that contemporary music isn’t necessary to get people involved in the singing.  The hymns are alive and sung with a passion.  You will find some old music and some new songs, but all of them will still sound like they belong to God.  And God deserves quality.  You’ll find that, too.

INVITATION

Every service will end with an invitation to respond to the challenge from God’s Word.  That such a Holy God would take time to speak to us is an awesome idea and demands that He receive a response from us. The pastor or trained men and women are always available to pray with you if you need to accept Christ as your Savior or need further help from God’s Word.

WHEN ARE YOUR SERVICES?

Worship is the act of loving and responding to God!  Through the heart-warming, conservative music and the clear, Bible teaching and preaching in our services, your heart will be inspired to love and to respond to God.  Each week, families are strengthened, encouraged, and drawn closer to Him through these special times together.  Each service is carefully planned and prayed over so that God may work in your life!

LIFE CHANGING TESTIMONIES

  • Central Baptist Church has been my church home since March 2017 when my husband, Wes Stewart, and I moved to Amarillo from Tucumcari, NM. Central has a friendly congregation and good, sound preaching. I was able to join the choir under Bro. Tracy Stafford's leadership several years ago, and that was a huge blessing. Pastor Copeland has been a positive and encouraging influence in my life and the lives of many others. He loves the Lord, His Word, the church, his family, the congregation, missionaries, and the lost. My husband and I participate each week, and we hope to continue serving my Savior here for many years to come. This is a great church with great people who love the Lord, and we also have a very strong Missions Program and support 85 missionaries and Christian ministries through our Faith Promise giving program. If you are looking for a church home, I highly recommend Central Baptist Church.

  • The most important thing about coming to Central Baptist Church was that I learned how very important it is for us to repent of our sins when we ask the Lord to save us. If we don't admit that we are sinners and choose to turn from our sins, we are not really getting saved - we don't need a Savior if we are not ready to give up our sin.
I thought that I was saved, but after we came to Central, I learned that repentance it is truly being sorry for our sins-repenting, and truly believing in our hearts that He died on the cross for our sins. "The sinner's prayer" is not magic; it is truly repenting and truly believing.
There was a time at church on a Sunday morning that I wondered why there was no joy in my life. I decided that it was because I had not repented, so I prayed to the Lord and said, "I repent of my sins. Please forgive me, and come into my heart and save my soul. Now I am for sure that I repented and that I am saved. The joy is now there.

  • In 2017, I retired from full-time ministry. Donna and I made Amarillo, TX, our home and became active members of Central Baptist Church. Central had been our home away from home, and we were good friends with Brother Chadwick and his wife for years. We already knew most everyone at Central, and they welcomed us warmly. Recently God called Allen Copeland to follow Brother Chadwick, and he is our new pastor. Central is blessed to have another great pastor to lead us forward as we serve our Lord until He comes to take us home. You will find Central Baptist a place where everyone is important! The people will love you, pray for you, encourage you, and be your friend. Central Baptist is a place where preaching the Word of God is a priority, the music is spiritual and uplifting, the people have a burden for the unsaved, and it is a place where you will have a friend. We found Central Baptist Church our home. It could be your home also. Come and see!
